of Knitting an Aran Sweater

After arriving in Galway City on October 22nd, we'll have free time in the afternoon.

Our tour offers an optional complimentary class in Irish knitting including the intricate designs and stitches of Aran fishermen sweaters.

Learn how to knit or (if you are not a knitter) just listen to the fascinating stories of how the stitches were developed over the years on the Aran Islands. Discover the legends and meaning of each stitch!

Our instructor is Anne O Maille of the famous O Maille Shop in Galway City. Established in 1938, this family-run shop became world-famous by producing the clothing for the class film, The Quiet Man, and has done a brisk trade ever since.   Anne, who knits herself, also commissions work from knitters all over the West of Ireland.
