Limerick. From world-renowned 5-star castles and country manors, to modern hotels and resorts, coastal and riverside guesthouses, and family-run bed-and-breakfasts, the Shannon Region offers a dazzling variety of places to stay. For the most part, I have divided these accommodations by county Clare, Limerick, Tipperary and Offaly. However, two towns in Clare Bunratty and Doolin have each been given a separate section, as has Cashel/Cahir in Tipperary. Why? In the case of Bunratty, one of the most frequently-asked questions on my Ask Pat Q & A Forum is "What is a good place to stay at Bunratty?" That's because Bunratty is the home of one of Ireland's most popular attractions Bunratty Castle & Folk Park, and just 5 miles from Shannon Airport so many people choose Bunratty for their first or last overnight to be near Shannon. As for Doolin, it is like a magnet for people seeking Irish traditional music. It is a particular favorite for youthful back-packers, but many other travelers also want to experience the remote charm of Doolin. Likewise, the area around the Rock of Cashel and especially the towns of Cashel and Cahir are much in demand for overnight stops. So, here are my favorite choices in the region this is not meant to be an exhaustive list, just a sampling in all price categories. Click on the area that interests you: |
